Chapter XIV
The People's Militia
October 8, 2026

Cassidy Darkstar took up his road again in Moonbrook, in the south of Westfall, where the last chapter had left him, and on that threshold a small honour was set against his name: that he had walked in the WoW: Forever Beta. He went out to Demont's Place and came back again to Moonbrook. Then he turned north to Alexston Farmstead, passing by Stendel's Pond, and there he settled to the work that would hold him through all the chapter.

That work was the errand called "The People's Militia", and it asked for the thinning of the Defias who troubled those lands. At Alexston Farmstead the fifteenth Defias Looter fell before him, and a picture was taken there to keep the place. He went down by Moonbrook and back, and then west to Longshore, where three pictures were taken one upon another. Between Longshore and Alexston Farmstead the fifteenth Defias Pillager was overcome as well, and in that same labour the eighth Goretusk Liver was gathered for the errand of "Goretusk Liver Pie". So both charges were full, and he had only to carry word of them home.

He turned north and east to Sentinel Hill and went up into Sentinel Tower, and a picture was taken as he entered. There he gave his account of the Defias he had driven back, and "The People's Militia" was done; and at once he took that duty up again, for the Militia had more for him to do. From the tower he went north to Saldean's Farm, and there the livers were delivered and "Goretusk Liver Pie" was finished. Two errands seen through, and a third taken up in their place: it was a fair reckoning for a short road.

Last of all he went south and east to The Dead Acre. There he met the first Defias Highwayman of all his journeying and overcame him, and a picture was kept of that moment. He went once more up to Sentinel Tower and came back to The Dead Acre, and then the road bent south and west again, through Moonbrook to Demont's Place, where the chapter had begun. There he halted, with the Militia's second charge in his keeping and the long roads of Westfall still before him.
